Division III football likely to delay new clock rules for 1st downs

The NCAA Football Rules Committee appears headed toward delaying Division III’s implementation of the new game clock rule for first downs for a year. The biggest rule change approved last month for 2023 will have the game clock continue to run when a first down is gained except in the last two minutes of either half. Previously, the clock stopped when a first down was gained and restarted on the referee’s signal. The rule will be used in the Bowl Subdivision, Championship Subdivision and Division II. It was put on hold in Division III after the division’s management council requested the Playing Rules Oversight Panel refer it back to the Football Rules Committee for further review.“I think delay a year is the most likely scenario,” Steve Shaw, national coordinator of officials and secretary-rules editor, said in a text to The Associated Press on Thursday.Shaw said Division III administrators and coaches want to see how the new rule affects games in the upper division...Supreme Court sides with ex-Cuomo aide, others convicted of corruption related to ‘Buffalo Billion’

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Supreme Court on Thursday ruled for a onetime top aide to ex-New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and for others who were convicted of corruption related to an economic development project known as the “Buffalo Billion.”In two cases before the court, both liberal and conservative justices were unanimous in saying there were problems with the convictions. The cases are the latest in a line stretching back years that criticize federal prosecutors for overreaching in public corruption cases against state and local officials, as well as people doing business with government. In 2020, the high court threw out the convictions of political allies of former Gov. Chris Christie, R-N.J., over the “Bridgegate” scandal that involved four days of traffic jams on the George Washington Bridge. In 2016, the SUpreme Court threw out the bribery conviction of former Gov. Bob McDonnell, R-Va.The current cases grew out of the “Buffalo Billion” development project, which was intended to ...Grains lower, Livstock lower.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — If you’re stumped for how to spend this Mother’s Day, consider relishing a good scare. Since the genre’s inception, horror movies have tapped into the psychological trauma and terror that can only come from a mother, and a number of recent films are embracing that time-honored tradition.Take, for example, Brandon Cronenberg’s “Infinity Pool,” which became one of the buzziest films to come out of this year’s Sundance Film Festival. It’s no surprise it was replete with disturbing moments. The director, after all, has surely learned a thing or two from his filmmaker dad and giant of the genre, David Cronenberg. In one talked-about scene, Gabi (Mia Goth) exposes her bare chest to James (Alexander Skarsgård) in an invitation to breastfeed, revealing a complicated tension between his actual mother and his understanding of Gabi as his new one. While the genre has often been dismissed as low-brow, Adam Lowenstein, a film and media studies professor at the Univ...STORY REMOVED: US–Film Review-The Mother

NEW YORK (AP) — Lindsay Berra wanted grandpa Yogi remembered as a constant in Most Valuable Player voting before he was a regular in “Bartlett’s Familiar Quotations.”“He played his last game on May 9, 1965, and then spent nearly 50 years making commercials and coaching and saying funny things on television,” she said. “If you’re under 50 years old, you have no recollection of grandpa as a player at all. But you’ve seen him on television your whole life, right? So I think it’s a recency bias.”“It Ain’t Over,” a 98-minute documentary on Yogi Berra’s life, aims to elevate his playing career alongside his persona as a cultural icon. The Sony Pictures Classics film premiered last June at the Tribeca Festival and opens in theaters in the New York tri-state area and Los Angeles on Friday, which would have been Berra’s 98th birthday. Distribution expands to additional markets on May 19.Producer Peter Sobiloff attended the Yogi Berra Museum Celebrity Golf Classic on June 11, 2018...Latest news
