Anthony Barr is coming back to Minnesota.A source confirmed to the Pioneer Press that the Vikings are planning to sign Barr to the practice squad in the wake of linebacker Jordan Hicks needing to have emergency surgery on his lower leg. It’s unclear how much time the 31-year-old Barr will need to get in playing shape considering he hasn’t played in the NFL this season.Originally selected by the Vikings with the No. 9 pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, Barr played nearly a decade in Minnesota, emerging as a face of the franchise under former head coach Mike Zimmer. Vikings linebacker Jordan Hicks was rushed to a local hospital immediately following Sunday’s 27-19 victory over the New Orleans Saints. After suffering a shin contusion early in the game, and briefly returning to action, Hicks ended up needing to have emergency surgery to reduce the swelling in his lower leg. He remained in the hospital on Monday afternoon, according to head coach Kevin O’Connell, who planned to go visit him.“It is something more than likely that will cause him to miss at least this week,” Hicks said. “We will make sure Jordan continues to get that great care, and hope to have him back in the facility as soon as possible.”Asked for more clarification about the situation, O’Connell noted that Hicks developed compartment syndrome, a condition caused by pressure buildup from internal bleeding or swelling of tissues. It can be very dangerous if not treated with the proper care. That’s why the Vikings acted as quickly as th...

Dane Mizutani: It’s time to give Vikings GM Kwesi Adofo-Mensah the respect he has earned

Published Sun, 23 Feb 2025 19:43:51 GMT

Vikings general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah nervously paced around his spot in the press box during a game a couple of weeks ago. He had just acquired journeyman quarterback Josh Dobbs from the Arizona Cardinals at the NFL trade deadline, not at all expecting him to be thrust into action less than a week later.Yet, there he was filling in under center with the Vikings trying to pull off an improbable comeback win on the road. As the game wound to a close, Dobbs got the ball back with 2 minutes, 8 seconds left, needing to go the length of the field to take the lead. That’s exactly what he did, miraculously scrambling for 22 yards to keep the drive alive, then throwing a touchdown pass that put the Vikings on top for good in a 31-28 win over the Atlanta Falcons. In that moment, Adofo-Mensah couldn’t contain his excitement, dapping up a few members of the front office before the final seconds ticked off the game clock. That scene could end up defining this season for the Viki...
