When Jared Leonard closed Wash Park’s Au Feu Brasserie in January, he set out to create a concept better suited for the neighborhood.“Au Feu was meant to be fine-dining with a European wine list that won an Award of Excellence in ‘Wine Spectator,’” Leonard said. “It was very sophisticated, and we did a lot of things right there, but it’s not what that Wash Park neighborhood wants. The format didn’t really fit.”Clairette’s handcrafted cocktails feature fresh-squeezed juices, plus homemade simple syrups and sodas. It has been a year since the Supreme Court overturned the Constitutional right to abortion established in Roe v. Wade with the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health decision on June 24, 2022, and the impact on Colorado has been devastating. It has caused trauma to providers, patients, and advocates alike.Even in states like Colorado where abortion is legal, the Dobbs decision has thrown the health care system into chaos. Patients, many of them in medical, emotional, and financial distress, are flooding Colorado from abortion ban states. Statewide, patients here are seeing delays in the full spectrum of reproductive health care because of the time-sensitive nature of abortion care. Routine screenings and procedures are getting pushed back and moved around because we have a crisis created by the Supreme Court and anti-abortion ideologues.DENVER, COLORADO – JUNE 27: Heather Brown, 43, is dressed as a handmaid from The Handmaid’s Tale in front of the Colorado State Capitol in Denver dur...Meatballs in tomato sauce get a little lighter

By Melissa Clark, The New York TimesMeatballs in tomato sauce are a comforting thing, a ruddy, garlicky Italian American classic meant to be nestled on a pile of spaghetti and showered in cheese. This dish is not that.True, it has meatballs, assertively flavored with garlic and browned in hot oil. And yes, they finish cooking in a savory, brick-red tomato sauce. But that’s where the similarities end. Because these are summer meatballs. The traditional dish, to my mind, is an ideal winter companion. A cozy mix of canned tomatoes and olive oil bubbling leisurely on the stove, it’s perfect to sit close by when it’s chilly out, as warming as a woolly turtleneck.Think of this version as meatballs all decked out in their resort wear. Made from fresh summer tomatoes that are only briefly cooked, the sauce stays juicy and bright — and making it won’t heat up your kitchen. What the dish loses in long-cooked marinara richness, it more than makes up for in sweetness, tang and a fragrant to...These are the 'most livable' small cities of 2023, study says
